![]() They are very easy to train and can defeat other light infantry units like barbarian warband or Carthaginian Iberian Infantry. They carry pila, which are heavy javelins thrown before they charge, and move slightly faster than triarii (supposedly). Hastati will be the backbone of any starting army. They require an army barracks, which we will talk about later. ![]() Any cav unit, even some cataphracts, will rout when in prolonged combat with triarii. But their biggest use in the game is against cavalry. They carry no pila, and have tighter formations than most of their roman counterparts. Triarii are heavy spearmen with a decent attack, and great defense. ![]() Archers and triarii, which cannot be retrained yet, hastati, which are light infantry, velites, which have a limited selection of missiles and are terrible at melee, and then town watch, which are useless. When you start your RTW campaign, you have a rather limited selection of units.
